Researching for my art allows me to better explore all the creative possibilities for my project and helps me to focus my creative energy in a more effective and thoughtful way. For example, one of my creative projects is a period piece set in England in the 1920s. I look at old photographs taken at the time, newspaper articles, historical accounts, and diary entries from people living then to help build a wider context around my work. I also research decades previous to when my piece is set to further inform how my characters would realistically and accurately talk, what their beliefs would be, and what experiences shaped their lives. I strive for accuracy in my work and this research helps achieve a realistic and immersive experience for the viewers. I aso use a reference board of art by other artists I admire.
